Metamorphosis Alpha Strength
Metamorphosis Alpha:
As we can see in these early D&D rules Strength was important for class, and was factored into a Fighter’s ability to do certain activities. The idea of allowing Strength to affect doing certain activities such as breaking something, bending things, weight carrying and more can be factored into Metamorphosis Alpha by assigning hit points to an object for instance.
Gamma World made the bonus modifier require a slightly higher number and the penalty modifier slightly less, but in essence is very similar to Metamorphosis Alpha’s description. Metamorphosis Alpha’s maximum bonus is +4 whereas Gamma World’s is +3. Maximum Strength penalty for Metamorphosis Alpha is -6 and Gamma World at -5. This means mechanically Metamorphosis Alpha’s no modifier spread is 8 and Gamma Worlds is 10, so even though Metamorphosis Alpha has a higher bonus potential its higher penalty potential makes it the less forgiving game. Gamma World added fatigue rules that Strength affects. I will look at Fatigue and related ideas separately.
