Bubblgum Space Opera? What’s with the name?

I decided to name this blog Bubblegum Space Opera because it was started in response to WotC coming along and messing with the StarFrontiers fan magazines at the time. I was writing for one and doing art, all for free for a game WotC did not support. Specifically they were being very aggressive towards StarFrontier fans. Star Frontiers is very much a Space Opera type game, and Bubblegum because of all the wacky cinematic early scifi fantasy serials. Games like D&D or Arduin had always had a scifi aspect to them as well. Then there is Traveller, Dying Planet games, Post Apocalypse games and genre all of which I love. Not to mention classics like Star Wars or Star Trek. To me all the pulp fiction, scifi magazines, Saturday comics, television and movies about fantasy and scifi is the heart of the collective inspiration of many TTRPGs, thus Bubblegum Space Opera was born. I wanted to continue writing, continue to explore my favourite games, and create. I wanted to skip down nostalgia lane and play games from long ago or try newer games. Ultimately WotC mellowed and one of the fan magazines returned. I have noticed several others for other WotC TSR IPs just seem gone. Unfortunately WotC has since given us regular drama of strange behaviors that don’t seem the best approach to making money to me but hey I am not in charge of them. As a result I will continue exploring games I loved, new systems, and who knows get a wacky soace game going. With so much out there in both Tactical and Role Playing I will be writing more.

In the meantime expect to start seeing some wacky gonzo stuff from my older collection of stuff, and reviews of newer stuff.
