The Dire Bird: FrontierSpace Star Probe Episode 2, Season 2

Injured Talon and Stella having escaped from the Bladder Squirrel infested forest wander (well stagger really with all the burn, blunt injury and slightly toxic spine damage) into a meadow with a sigh of relief. They hear a sharp cry from above and looking up notice 7 hawk like birds circling high in the sky "No doubt looking for what ever passes as mice on this god forsaken planet" mumbles Stella. "Is their pattern getting tighter?" asks Talon. Stella puts her hands above her eyes to see better and wipe blood from her forehead "Yeah, that's weird don't raptors hunt individually?" Stella screams "Oh god! They're diving... Run!" "Where to!" Yells Talon. "Back into the Fraking jungle!" Shrieks Stella running away as the edges of the talons of the first beast rips into her shoulder...

These terrifying flying alien creatures are carnivores that inhabit a wide range of habitats there are many species of this creature. They are very successful pack diurnal hunters and hunt in flocks composed of usually 5 to 10 adults. Smaller flocks and individual animals can be encountered. These are clever deadly hunters with excellent eyesight. Their mouths are composed of a sturdy beak with tiger like teeth on the inside and in addition they have a wing talon on each wing that they can slice or even stab with They also have sturdy clawed raptor feet designed for grabbing prey. They can be trained to hunt (that includes in packs) for more sentient beings (the wing talons are generally removed from domesticated birds). They use a variety of verbal calls which help coordinate their attacks on the prey and to declare their territory to other flocks. Their feathers reflect beam weapons and people trying to defend themselves with beam weapons have been known to be killed or injured by a reflected beam.
